What is a Limited Licence?
A Limited Licence is a court-approved permit that allows you to drive in restricted circumstances after your licence has been suspended or you have been disqualified.
How do I qualify?
You must prove to the court that losing your licence causes extreme hardship to you or undue hardship to others. This is the legal test applied for every application.
When can I apply?
In general, if your disqualification is from a conviction in court, you must wait 28 days before the court can grant the licence. However we can prepare and file everything during the stand-down so your application is ready to be heard as soon as possible. Demerit suspensions have no stand-down period and you can apply immediately.
Do I need to go to court?
In many cases, Judges grant applications 'on the papers' without an appearance. If you are required to attend, we will represent you and most hearings are very brief.
What restrictions apply?
Your licence will often have strict conditions, including approved hours, routes, and specific vehicles. The will be granted if it alleviates extreme or undue hardship. You must also maintain a detailed logbook for every journey you take.
What does it cost?
Court filing fees range from $171 to $269 depending on the case type. Our service fee is $900 (+gst), which covers all document preparation and ongoing support.
What happens after approval?
Once granted: The court issues your Limited Licence order. You take it to the AA to have your licence issued. You must follow all conditions strictly.
Do I need to keep a logbook?
Yes. You must record every trip, including: date and time, start and destination, reason for travel, vehicle details, and odometer readings.
Who cannot apply?
You may be ineligible to apply if you are applying for a licence due to a conviction, and if you’ve had particular driving offence in the last 5 years; you’ve driven while disqualified; or you need a licence for passenger services.

What happens when the disqualification ends?
You are not automatically licensed again. You need to apply at the AA to reinstate your licence before you can legally drive.
